Worcester will host the Knife Angel, the National Monument Against Violence and Aggression, at Cathedral Square throughout March.

Standing at 27ft-tall, the statue was designed by sculptor and artist Alfie Bradley and uses more than 100,000 knives seized by over 40 UK police forces.

The impressive figure aims to increase knife crime awareness and will be accompanied by activities designed to educate the public on the impacts of aggression on the streets.

The message of prevention will continue, as those who carry a knife may freely discard the weapon in a knife amnesty box located next to the angel.

Marc Bayliss, Leader of Worcester City Council, said, “The Knife Angel will become the focus for a city-wide conversation about violence, aggression and knife crime while it is in Worcester.”

The West Midlands had among the highest rates of knife crime in the country last year, according to the Office for National Statistics.

John Campion West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner showed his support for the angel stating, “having this clear reminder will play another part in helping to keep our communities safe”.
