Staff from Foley Grange care home in Kidderminster and Sedgley Court care home in Dudley competed in a charity football match recently to raise money for KEMP Hospice.

In preparation for the match, which took place at Wyre Forest Leisure Centre, staff at Foley Grange were given some top tips by local football team, the Kidderminster Harriers.

To start the match, 89-year-old resident and avid football fan, Donald Burden, made the first kick and cheered the teams on from the sidelines. Donald said, ‘It was very entertaining watching them all – it was a great day!’

The care workers from each home channelled their inner Beckham and raised £100 for the hospice. Hannah Atkinson, the Home Manager at Foley Grange, said,

‘The football match was a huge success! Even though we were beaten by the team from our sister home, Sedgley Court, we are still so proud to have raised such a great amount for KEMP Hospice.

‘We’d like to thank the Wyre Forest Leisure Centre for donating their football pitch to us for the day, the Kidderminster Harriers for giving us a fantastic training session, and Fizzy Ink for sponsoring our team and making our fabulous football bibs.’

Mitchell Taylor, the Front of House Manager at Sedgley Court, said, ‘The football match really put the ‘fun’ in ‘fundraiser’! Everyone had a great time raising money for this worthy charity working alongside out sister home, Foley Grange, to achieve great things! Here’s to our next fundraiser – watch this space!

‘Thank you to The Print Studio for sponsoring our team and making our fantastic football shirts!’

Jayne Sargeant, Head of Fundraising and Communications at KEMP Hospice, commented, ‘We were absolutely thrilled that Foley Grange and Sedgley Court chose to support KEMP Hospice with a £100 donation following their charity football match.

‘Developing relationships with local organisations is so important to us, and a wonderful opportunity for more people to access KEMP Hospice services. We look forward to hopefully working with them in the future.’
