A heat health alert remains in force across most of England, with temperatures forecast to reach 28 degrees Celsius in Herefordshire and Worcestershire today.

A yellow warning was jointly issued by the Met Office and UK Health Security Agency from Monday morning.

Forecasters say temperatures as high as 30 degrees or above could have a significant impact on elderly and vulnerable people.

Matthew Fung is from Public Health Worcestershire, and says it's important people keep themselves safe as the weather becomes warmer.

"Warmer weather and sunshine is a lot of fun which people should enjoy, but there are risks with not following advice," he said.

"There can be some serious consequences, including heat exhaustion, where the body overheats and can't cool down, and heat stroke, where the body temperature becomes dangerously high.

"People can do plenty of things to stay safe during warmer weather, like drinking plenty but limiting alcohol intake, keeping cool and keeping out of the sun around midday, using sun cream, and also limiting the amount of strenuous activity they do.

"It's also about checking on others, checking on older friends and neighbours, checking their temperature is ok, making sure that they're drinking enough, so it's important that we look after our own health and well-being, but it's also really important to look out for one another."

The warning will remain in place until Thursday.
