The coronavirus infection rate in Redditch has been discussed at a government meeting today.

It currently stands at 157 per 100,000 people.

That's the highest rate in the whole of Worcestershire.

In comparison, the rate over in Worcester is now under 50.

The Borough Council says it's been working with local community groups to try and get the infection rate down.

They reckon it's mainly work related, but think social contact is also having an effect.

The Redditch MP Rachel Maclean said in a statement:

“As residents know, Redditch has recently topped the charts for all the wrong reasons by having one of the highest infection rates in the country.

This is not something any of us want to see.

As a result, today Redditch will be raised at a national level in the Health Secretary’s meeting on the COVID situation in England.

We will continue to keep you updated and we will let you know the outcome of this meeting.”
