Four people have been hurt, one seriously after an explosion at a property in Evesham on Tuesday evening.

The incident happened just after 5.00pm in Hemmingway in the Fairfield area of the town.

"We got out of the house quick!"

Three ambulances, a Hazardous Area Response team, Midlands Air Ambulance, a trauma doctor, and emergency planning officer were among the crews called to the scene.

A man with serious injuries was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

Two others, with less serious injuries, received treatment at the scene and were taken to Hereford County Hospital.

A man from neighbouring property was also taken to Hereford County Hospital as a precaution.

One resident who lived seven doors away said it reminded him was a World War II bomb would sound like.

He said: "we got out of the House quick- it was such a bang and we just got up and ran out the house."

West Mercia Police evacuated ten neighbouring properties overnight and enforced a street cordon as they continue to survey the damage.
