A flooded Herefordshire primary school say they won't be able to reopen their doors to pupils on Monday.

Peterchurch Primary School had to close on Wednesday as water started to fill the classrooms and building.

In a statement from a spokesperson at the school it said: "Due to the flooding of the school, despite the efforts of staff and external teams we will not be ready to open on Monday 21st October."

Peterchurch Fire Brigade jumped into action two days ago and helped pump the water out of the school and divert some of the flood water from entering the building.

Nia Powell is the headteacher of Peterchurch Primary School, she told us yesterday "A small amount of staff stayed here to make sure pupils were safe. We actually barricaded the doors where water was coming in and had to call 999.

"It's had a devastating impact. It's awful that we've had to close."

The school haven't given a date they hope to let pupils back, as they assess the damage done to the classrooms and building.
