A drink driver - who left an elderly woman with life-changing injuries - has been jailed and banned from driving.

Kevin Turner, 65, of Berrington Road in Chipping Camden, Gloucestershire, failed to give way at a roundabout and hit another vehicle.

He's been sentenced to 32 months in prison for causing serious injury and has been given a further four-month sentence for drink driving. This will run concurrently.

The 65-year-old has also been banned from driving for 52 months - after which he will need to retake his driving test.

The sentence follows the collision on Pershore Road, known locally as Berry Hill, in Evesham on April 9, 2022. Turner failed to give way to a car already travelling around a roundabout hitting the car at speed and with force.

An elderly couple in the car were both injured, in particularly the female passenger who suffered life-changing injuries.

Roads Policing Team lead investigator PC Paul Bosley said the team were pleased with the result following a lengthy investigation in which Turner had initially refused to accept responsibility for the collision and showed no remorse until he finally pled guilty in February.

PC Bosley said: “Justice was finally served on Thursday when the driver responsible for this crash finally accepted culpability.

“His poor driving and driving while intoxicated caused this crash and have unfortunately had a major and lasting impact on the innocent victims who became involved in this through no fault of their own.

“These are the people that must continue living this nightmare daily and I am glad the Criminal Justice System has recognised this and imposed the most correct and appropriate sentence to deal with this driver.

“We hope this sends out a message that driving under the influence devastates lives and will not be tolerated and offenders will be brought to justice.”
