Bromsgrove MP calling for county council to 'crack on' with proposals to reduce speed limit through village
Bradley Thomas says the previous council administration had been 'committed' to lowering the speed from 40mph to 30 on the A441 through Bordesley
Bromsgrove's MP is calling for Worcestershire County Council to continue with proposals to reducing the speed limit through a constituency village.
The plan would see the speed on the A441 through Bordesley dropped from 40 to 30 miles per hour after residents raised concerns about road safety.
Member of parliament for the area Bradley Thomas says last year he brought together key local stakeholders, including local councillors and the county council to discuss the issue.
He was then told the previous council administration were 'committed to reducing the speed limit' and work was well underway with a public consultation planned.
Following council elections in May, Mr Thomas is now urging the new administration to honour the plan.
"It's about trying to control the level of speed so that it's safer for residents who are living on that main road, who quite often to be frank, put their live sort of at risk when they're trying to pull out of driveways or come from the road onto their driveway," he said.
"This was one of the first issues I picked up after my election into parliament last year and the administration at the time was very supportive of reducing the speed limit from 40 to 30 but part of the process they need to go through was a public consultation.
"I'm calling upon the new administration at Worcestershire County Council to crack on with that public consultation so that we can get the speed limit lowered sooner rather than later so that the residents of Bordesley feel safe."
A Worcestershire County Council spokesperson said: "We are continuing to review the proposal for changes to the speed limit on the A441 through Bordesley.”
