Age UK Herefordshire and Worcestershire say it's important to keep a check on people more at risk to the heat as the warmer weather arrives.

A yellow health warning was in place across England last week, with forecasters saying temperatures could have a significant impact on elderly and vulnerable people.

Sonya Murray from the charity is calling for people to keep a close eye on their friends or relatives as the temperatures begin to rise.

She said: "As the weather is turning warmer, high temperatures and humidity can present a risk to health for everybody, but more so as we get older, and there's a number of reasons for that.

"They might not be able to get enough drinks because they struggle to get up to the kitchen and make them, and older adults just don't adjust as well as young people to sudden changes in temperature.

"If you know somebody who might struggle to access drinks for whatever reason, then checking in on them at regular intervals or by telephone, checking that they are actually having drinks throughout the day, that can help."

Temperatures reached as high as 28 degrees last week in some places in the area.
