The level of the River Nidd at Hunsingore is rising rapidly above the forecast level. The current observed level is 1.45m and is thought to have reached 1.8m at around 10.30am.

A number of serious flood warnings have been issued across the Harrogate District and Yorkshire Dales as Storm Bella has brought heavy rain and high winds across the country.

As of 1.30pm this afternoon (Sunday 27 December), 18 yellow warnings for rain are in place across the county, with a further six warnings requiring immediate action. 12 warnings are no longer in force.

Rail routes have also been affected by the flooding.

There will be no service on Northern between Skipton and Morecambe and it is unknown well service will resume.

Flooding is expected at the River Ure at Roacliffe Caravan Park and the River Nidd at Hunsingore. The red warnings for the River Nidd at Low Laithe, Swinney Beck at Masham and the River Aire at Cottingley are no longer in force.

There amber warning at the Upper River Wharfe near Grassington is no longer in force but the warnings for Lower River Wharfe near Harewood, the Upper River Nidd catchment between Lofthouse and Pateley Bridge and the Lower River Ure near Ripon still stand.

River levels are forecast to rise as a result of a band of heavy rain overnight from Storm Bella. Consequently, flooding of property/roads and farmland is expected. Areas most at risk are low lying land and roads.
