A yellow weather warning's in place for snow and ice across Yorkshire and the Humber.
The Met Office warning is in place until midnight.
There could be some disruption to roads and public transport.
Icy stretches are likely to form with snow falling for some places.
Becky Mitchell, Meteorologist at the Met Office, said: "It is bitterly cold out there at the moment, particularly across Yorkshire we've got a biting north-easterly wind this week. So we've seen temperatures fall well below freezing overnight, likely to see some settling snow, even to lower levels in places but particularly over places like the North York Moors.
"It's bitter in the east but a lot of snow across the whole of the UK, so if that does happen again, there's potential that it could be just about anywhere in the country and not just parts in the south. There could potentially be some easterly winds later on in the month and again, that could bring very cold air and a risk of snow.
"We could see about 1cm to 3cm around some lower areas but around 5cm to 8cm in parts of the hills. So yes, snow and ice warnings out for now but for the weekend though, there's less of a risk of snow but do keep up-to-date for colder weather in the coming weeks.
"We've had northerly and easterly winds over the last couple of weeks which has brought the really cold weather and temperatures well below freezing. But as we head into next week, the winds are starting to change more westerly so we'll gradually see a return of temperatures closer to normally for the time of year. It will feel less cold."
