Bonfire night might still be more than a week away but we're hearing how fireworks are already causing misery in parts of North Yorkshire.

There's been reports of anti social behaviour in Selby with people throwing them in and around the Town.

"Outside my house they are throwing them and it's loud you know and it annoys me. I don't like them at all, I never did when I was a kid and I think they are a hazard as they can cause a lot of damage."

"They put them on mischievous night and they are still going in the early hours of the morning and they shouldn't be."

Ainsley also lives in Selby with her assistance dog Mary. She says it's frustrating they are already being let off: "If it was just confined to one night or if it was the weekend before then it would be so much better and people would know and people could look after their animals, their pets, because they don't know what the heck is going on."

"I think if you could have quiet ones which still lit up the sky that would be perfect so if we could do it without the bangs that would be perfect."

Recently there have been several reports of instances of anti social behaviour in and around Selby town centre mainly involving the throwing of fireworks.

The Police also say they've had numerous reports of young people throwing eggs and stones at members of the public and vehicles.

Sergeant Lauren McGillivray from the Selby Neighbourhood Policing team said: “This type of behaviour will not be tolerated in Selby and North Yorkshire as it causes distress and alarm to members of the public.

“ The safety of the local community is our priority and any incidents reported will be taken seriously.

“ We will be increasing patrols and officers will be utilising the additional powers from the dispersal notice when appropriate.”

It is illegal for anyone under 18 to purchase and possess adult fireworks in a public place.
