Drivers are being urged to be careful after a oil spill between Harrogate and Ripon.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service have said they've already been called to a collision because of the spill, which is from the A61 at Wormald Green to the A59 Skipton Road.

Motorists have said the situation is "chaotic" and have reported a broken down lorry on Skipton Road.

One said: "Be careful at New Park roundabout, broken down lorry at bottom of Skipton road and an oil spill actually on the roundabout, its very very slippery going round the roundabout, it's a bit chaotic at the moment so avoid the area."

Another commented: "I've just driven from Burton Leonard to Harrogate and it was lethal. Windscreen covered and couldn't clear it and steering all over the place."

A third urged drivers to keep enough stopping distance: "Leave plenty of braking distance on Skipton road. I pulled out of St John’s road and started losing control of the steering. You can see diesel on the road right up to the Empress roundabout"
