Yorkshire Air Ambulance was called out on Saturday (26 June), to help a Yorkshire 3 Peaks walker, who slipped on the final climb of Pen-y-Ghent.

The 34-year-old woman fell about 3 metres, and landed on her hip, shortly after 8am.

Volunteers from the local Cave Rescue Organisation gave pain relief, and assessed her injuries, before loading her onto a stretcher.

The stretcher was then carried down a grassy slope.

This was instead of the rocky path, against the flow of other 3 Peaks walkers.

The patient was then assessed by the Air Ambulance crew, and loaded onto the helicopter to be flown to hospital.

Despite the extreme pain the woman was suffering before medical attention, and concern from the air ambulance doctor about a partial loss of sensation, there were no fractures.

Hospital X-rays confirmed the patient suffered very severe bruising.
