Relatives of North Yorkshire care home residents are being asked to be patient when they go to see loved ones.

It is as the latest relaxation of rules in the lockdown roadmap now allows two designated visitors.

Mike Padgham, who is Chair of the Independent Care Group in North Yorkshire also runs Saint Cecilia's in Scarborough and said:

"People living in care homes can have two designated people to visit them so that's great; and also if they've got very young grandchildren or great grandchildren under 2 years old they can also come along and they're not counted in the figures. So you can have two adults or one adult, an older child and a younger person under 2.

"We still have to apply the rules; you still have to wear PPE, you still have to have a lateral flow test and you can hold hands with protective gloves on, but no hugging or kissing at the moment I'm sorry to say but I'm hoping that will come one day. These stops have to be taken cautiously because it's great the virus is reducing but it's still out there.

"A lot of care homes are doing visits by appointments so it's always good to ring and book an appointment. They are time limited at the minute to enable everyone to have a chance to see their loved ones, so around half an hour to an hour is the norm. I'd just ask people to be patient as there's quite a lot of extra admin work and to make sure that it's contained so people can see their loved ones when they want."
