North Yorkshire parents encouraged to make children aware of dangers online

There are calls for parents and teachers across North Yorkshire to understand the risks of the internet in order to educate children.
The NSPCC says it's so the right advice can be given - as well as encouraging conversations as early as possible.
The organisation is wanting everyone to be safe online as new threats and advances are constantly emerging.
Today marks safer internet day Across the UK. The NSPCC is raising awareness by encouraging young people to shape the online safety support that they receive.
Helen Westerman is the head of campaigns a NSPCC in Yorkshire, she said:
“As soon as your child starts to use technology, you want to be having conversations with them about the sites and apps they enjoy using, what they would do if they saw something that worried or upset them and what they would do if they posted something that they later regret.
“Our response as parents and guardians is important so if we’re being proportionate and our child comes to us and says ‘this has happened to me on this site what do I do? We’re not getting cross with the child, we’re going to be have a calm conversation about how we can resolve the situation.”
