A North Yorkshire woman's hoping to row her way into the world record books - by completing a six-month gruelling challenge.

24 year old Miriam Payne from York is part of three-woman team who'll embark on the 8,000 mile journey from Peru to Australia next year. She'll be joined by 27-year-old Jess Rowe from Hampshire and 24-year-old Lottie Hopkinson-Woolley from London.

The grueling challenge which will see them row for 15 hours a day (rowing day and night in shift patterns) through hostile conditions and over 30 foot waves.

On completion, the team will break three world records, including:

  • The youngest team to row the full Pacific Ocean
  • The first team to row the full Pacific Ocean nonstop and unsupported
  • The first trio to row the full Pacific Ocean

Miriam said:

"I did the Atlantic in 2022 and I think the oceans still had a bit of a hold of me.

"I wanted to push myself further, give myself an even bigger challenge and then there's charity side of it. We really wanted to raise as much money as possible for the Outward Bound Trust.

"There's going to be a lot of really hard moments but I think that's what's going to make you and we'll look back and think that was quite special."
