Rise in number of women accessing victim support services in North Yorkshire
It follows a campaign to raise awareness of what help is available in the County
There has been a big rise in the number of victims of violence across North Yorkshire coming forward to get specialist support.
Between April and September 5,101 women and girls came forward for help, which is up almost 30% compared to the same period last year.
Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Zoe Metcalfe is trying to raise awareness of what support is available. Six months ago she launched her campaign to tackle violence against women and girls.
Her team say since the start of the campaign there has been an increase in reports of misogyny, stalking and street harassment to North Yorkshire Police.
Commissioner Metcalfe says anyone who is worried should speak up: "If goes without saying if you are in immediate danger call 999 but if you are worried about an issue to do with yourself of maybe a friend it's really important you reach out and contact our support victim team."
