A man and a woman who killed a man in an unprovoked attack in Keighley have been jailed for life.

Leslie Walker and Angela Thornton were today (29 October) sentenced at Bradford Crown Court for the murder of George Dore. Both were convicted earlier this month following a trial.

Walker, 46, of Nightingale Street, Keighley, was given a minimum term of 22 years.

Thornton, 48, also of Nightingale Street in Keighley, was jailed for 19 and a half years.

Police were called to a property in Fell Lane, Keighley on 8 April this year where 49-year-old Mr Dore was found with a serious injury.

He was taken to hospital but sadly passed away a short time later.

Following sentencing, Detective Chief Inspector Vanessa Rolfe of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said:

“This was a horrific offence in which a man lost his life following a brutal attack with a knife.

“Tragic incidents like this highlight the dangers and dreadful outcomes that can occur with violent knife crimes.

“I know that jailing those responsible will never compensate for George’s death but we hope seeing them brought to justice may provide his family with a measure of comfort and closure.”

George’s partner, Michaela Roberts, said:

“It’s easy to say ‘life for a life’ when somebody you love, trusted and respected is mindlessly and meaninglessly murdered, but instead you end up feeling all kinds of emotions during your grief.

“George died for the simple fact he didn’t like somebody and his personality was such that he couldn’t pretend to; yet he was never rude.

“I would like to thank 999 for keeping me calm and together on the phone. The paramedics were very efficient yet polite. The police were fantastic from beginning to end and the emergency services, telephonists, doctors, surgeons and the Coroner. Also the Crown Prosecution Service and the police detectives, forensics and Becky my liaison officer.”
