Last chance to have a say on Skipton’s £7.8m Gateway project
There are just a few days left for Skipton residents to have their say on latest designs.
This Friday is the final day of a consultation on the major plans which aim to create a more attractive entrance to the town and improve public transport links for pedestrians and cyclists.
The proposals had included a cycle lane on Broughton Road between Skipton train station and the town centre, but this was scrapped after concerns were raised over the safety of cyclists and loss of a taxi rank.
Instead, widened footpaths and a 20mph speed limit could be introduced on a stretch of the road.
Other plans include widened footpaths on Carleton Street, as well as improvements to the entrance of the train station.
Anti-slip surfaces and ramps for cycles could also be introduced to improve access on Gallows Bridge, while the possibility of extra lighting on the canal between the train station and the Auction Mart is also being explored.
Councillor Simon Myers, deputy leader of Craven District Council, said: “I’d like to thank those who have taken the time to provide feedback about the amended plans.
“For those who haven’t seen the details, I would urge you to have a look now as the public consultation closes on November 12.
“Please don’t miss out on your chance to have your say before the scheme is brought forward for development.”
The district council and North Yorkshire County Council are behind the project and are working in partnership with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority which recently confirmed extra funding to increase the project cost up from £5.8m to £7.8m.
The designs will be finalised by the end of 2021 ahead of a final decision on the project.
If approved, it is anticipated that construction will begin in spring 2022 for approximately 12 months.
