Plans to open a micropub inside Knaresborough Train Station have been approved

The Track and Sleeper, which will serve real ale and gin, will occupy two vacant platform rooms which date back to 1865.

There were some concerns from residents - but the plans were given the go-ahead by Harrogate Borough Council.

Both Knaresborough Civic Society and Friends of Knaresborough Station wrote in support of the plans but with concerns over a lack of toilets and a “potential nuisance” from customers.

Four members of the public also lodged objections online.

Civic society chairman James Monaghan said in a letter the micropub would “enhance” the station and that rules around drinking and smoking should be introduced.

The proposals – submitted by Phil Paling – include a bar, seating area, bin store, two toilets, wash area and cold store.

Documents submitted with the plans said the redevelopment will be “sympathetic to both the external and internal aspects of the building”.

The Grade II listed train station dates back to the 1850s and more than 400,000 passengers pass through it every year
