Knaresborough lorry driver delivers aid to Ukrainian hospital
Bob Fendt is on his seventh trip since the war started
A 72 year old retired lorry driver from Knaresborough's arrived in Ukraine to hand over medical supplies to a hospital treating injured soldiers.
Bob Fendt says last time he went staff burst into tears because they were so grateful: "I thought they were upset because I hadn't bought the right stuff, but there was a journalist there who spoke a little bit of English and said no, Bob you don't understand she says there are no 40 people now who will speak on a mattress now not on a piece of cardboard on the floor." His lorry is filled with equipment including wheelchairs, crutches and mobility scooters as well as 400 Easter eggs to hand to children caught up in the fighting.
One he has completed this trip he says he will start collecting school supplies for his next journey: "The school has been closed for a year because the teachers had to go off fighting, or the ladies evacuated but now they are trying to get it back up and running, but they need laptops, tablets, headphones, pencils and papers."
He's thanked the local community in Knaresborough and says it wouldn't have been possible without them.
