A Knaresborough woman says she is "nervous but excited" to be heading to the King's Coronation.

Lauren Doherty is a road safety campaigner, she was hit by a van and become paralysed from the neck down when she was just 20 years old.

She's now shared her story with more than 10,000 school children to remind them to look before stepping out into traffic.

She says it's incredible to be recognised. "I was amazed, you don't expect something like that, it's just a piece of history that you are going to remember for the rest of your life. I probably won't sleep the night before, I'm very excited but very nervous. It'll be nice, both my Mum and Dad will be in London with me."

Lauren was involved in a life changing accident in 2008: "I'd been out to watch a few bands play, and early the next morning I was walking home and there was two vehicles on the road and I stepped out in front of one of them which was a van, I wasn't concentrating on what I was doing and I think I went about 30 feet down the road, and I was left paralysed from the neck down."
