The police watchdog has told us they're resuming their investigation into North Yorkshire Police following the murder of Lisa Welford.

The force made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) back in May - after having prior contact with the victim.

She died after being pulled from the River Derwent in Malton earlier this year.

47-year-old Vincent Morgan was jailed for life yesterday - with a minimum of 20 years.

A spokesperson for the IOPC said;

“Our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of Lisa Welford, as well as all those affected by her murder.

“Our independent investigation into contact North Yorkshire Police had with Ms Welford between January 2022 and April 2024 was paused to avoid prejudicing the criminal trial.

“Following the sentencing of Vincent Morgan, we will now be resuming our inquiries.”
