A man has died after collapsing whilst out on a run on moorland near Ilkley.

The Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association (UWFRA) team attended, at the request of the ambulance service, to recover the body of a man who had tragically collapsed and died last Saturday (9 October).

In a post the team said: "We offer our sincere condolences and sympathy to the gentleman’s family and friends at this time"

He was found by cyclists on Middleton Moor, near Langbar at around 11.40am.

In a statement, North Yorkshire Police said: "West Yorkshire Police were initially alerted to the incident and confirmed the location was over the North Yorkshire border.

"Their officers attended the scene along with North Yorkshire Police officers. The Yorkshire Air Ambulance arrived at 12.27pm.

"After an air ambulance paramedic certified the death, Fell Rescue team members used their 4x4 vehicle to take the man’s body off the moor at 1.45pm.

"The man’s family have been informed about the sudden death. We are not in a position to name him."
