Harrogate Town's first ever season in the football league couldn't have got off to a better start after their 4-0 victory away at Southend United propelled them straight to the top of League Two.

Jack Muldoon scored Town's historic first football league goal after 25 minutes, then just before half-time Lloyd Kerry put Town 2-0 up.

Aaron Martin made it 3-0 on the hour mark, then a few minutes later Jack Muldoon netted another to leave the final scoreline 4-0.

The impressive victory ensured Harrogate Town ended the opening day at the top of League Two.

Manager Simon Weaver said:

"I mean, top of the league after one game, I couldn't have asked anymore of the players, they've just been superb from the start of the game to the last.

"Extremely professional, put such an honest shift in, we had the benefits of being on top, scoring those four goals, really nice feeling."
