It's beginning to sound a lot like Christmas for Harrogate Theatre Choir
They're preparing for their first Christmas performances in two years
It’s beginning to sound a lot like Christmas for Harrogate Theatre Choir, who are back performing this festive season raising money for the NHS and MIND.
It has been two years since the Harrogate Theatre Choir’s last Christmas performance and to make up for lost time they have a series of events this winter all in the name of charity.
“We all missed it like mad. It’s a very sociable activity is singing," said Geraldine Shaw, committee member of the choir.
She added: “We’re like a singing family.”
The choir will be performing at four concerts before 25 December. Its first will be supporting the NHS at the Harrogate Hospital Community Annual Outdoor Pop-Up Christmas Market on November 28 from 11am to 7pm.
Geraldine, said:
“We’re looking forward to that. I just hope people will turn up and support their local NHS because they’ve just done so much for us all recently.”
The group will also be playing their own concert ‘Its Beginning to SOUND A Lot Like Christmas’ on December 4th. The event will be at All Saints’ Church, Kirkby Overblow.
The show will be in support of MIND in the Harrogate district - the choir’s charity of the year. Something that is very important to the choir as Geraldine explains:
“We’ve supported MIND in the Harrogate district for the last 18 months to two years.
“We nominate a charity of the year, but we really didn’t get much chance to do a lot of supporting of them in the first year, so we’ve extended out support to them. Especially as they’ve been a charity that have really needed additional funds.”
The Choir will also be performing twice on December 18th at St John's Parish Church in Knaresborough and at The Cellarium, Fountains Abbey. Information and tickets for these shows can be found on their website.
Despite not being able to perform last Christmas the choir managed to raise £750 for MIND through sales of their CD. And this year they are hoping that a return of their public performances will help spread the Christmas spirit throughout Harrogate.
