A new walk-in coronavirus testing centre opens in Harrogate today (Wednesday, 21 October).

Work on the testing site at the Dragon Road car park – which has hosted mobile testing units over several months - is complete.

Testing at the full-time site will be available seven days a week - with around 320 tests being carried out daily.

North Yorkshire’s director of Public Health, Dr Lincoln Sergeant, said:

“We have worked hard to retain and increase the level of testing across the county, so we are pleased that our efforts have resulted in the creation of this site and another in Scarborough.

“We will continue to lobby for further expansion of testing facilities across the county.”

After an initial pilot period, the Dragon Road testing centre will be open between 8am and 8pm

After an initial trial period, the Harrogate centre will open between 8am and 8pm, seven days a week.

The Department of Health and Social Care centre will be a walk-through centre, meaning people can arrive on foot rather than having to drive in.

People must book tests in advance.
