Harrogate Hospital has reached the grim milestone of 100 coronavirus deaths.

According to an update released on the first day of tier restrictions in December, one death was recorded at the hospital on Monday for it to reach the 100-mark.

The hospital is currently caring for 22 coronavirus patients – nine fewer than this time last week.

The death reported in Harrogate today was one of 43 across Yorkshire’s hospitals.

The total number of coroanvirus deaths at English hospitals now stands at 41,310.

Deaths were recorded where a patient either tested positive for Covid-19 or where no positive test result was received for Covid-19, but Covid-19 was mentioned on their death certificate.

NHS England releases updated figures each day showing the dates of every coronavirus-related death at hospitals in England, often including previously uncounted deaths that took place several days or even weeks ago.

It comes as Harrogate has the second lowest weekly infection rate in North Yorkshire, with 90 cases per 100,000 people.

This is below the England average of 152.
