A Harrogate Hospice care charity has launched a new fundraising initiative, encouraging people to get active during Spring.
Saint Michael's Hospice 100 Challenge is taking place during May, with participants encouraged to complete a sporting challenge, themed around 100.
The charity says this could include running, walking, swimming or cycling 100 miles or kilometres, or taking on 100 burpees, or aiming to get active for 100 minutes a day.
It's hoped each participant will raise £100.
Tony Collins, Chief Executive at the hospice, said: "Each week, we help hundreds of local people affected by terminal illness and bereavement and members of our HOME team travel hundreds of miles across the district, offering care to patients in the comfort and safety of their own homes.
“If people can join our Hospice 100 challenge and raise £100 it could help fund a daily package of care for someone affected by terminal illness in their own home, it could help us provide 10 provide tasty, home-cooked meals for ten patients at our hospice, or it could help provide a package of resources to support children or young people with their emotional wellbeing or bereavement during the pandemic.
“Every journey starts with a single step and we hope individuals and families will enjoy the chance to get outside, challenge themselves and make a real difference to the lives of local people living with terminal illness and bereavement.”
Supporter and keen runner Jacqui Havercroft (pictured) has already signed up to the challenge.
She said: “I know how important getting outside is to me for my health and wellbeing, particularly during lockdown.
"I’m going to be challenging myself to run 100 miles in May, doing something which I enjoy but will be challenging.
"If I can use this challenge to keep myself motivated AND make a difference to Saint Michael’s, then it makes the whole experience worth it. I like the fact that it’s so flexible – If I can’t run it all, I can walk or cycle too."
