A fire broke out in a Harrogate home in the early hours of this morning, after a plastic toaster was put inside an oven.

Firefighters were called to the property on Otley Road at 2.36am, with two crews from Harrogate and one from Knaresborough attending.

Two women in their early 20s who were in the home at the time of the blaze were checked over by paramedics at the scene as a precaution.

The women became aware of the fire when smoke detectors inside the property went off.

Fire crews have described the suspected cause of the blaze as "careless use of a heat source".
