A cat which went missing from a Harrogate village has been reunited with its owners four years later.

The RSPCA has reunited a Rachel Johnson and her family with their cat, Nora, after she was found struggling to breathe near a care home in Whixley.

Nora’s family were shocked and thrilled to find out the RSPCA had been contacted as they had given up hope of ever seeing her again.

Rachel told Greatest Hits Radio: "Whenever I drove past the area I always thought I should get out of the car and have a look but it was just futile as she could've been anywhere.

"When I got the call I was thinking that it can't possibly be Nora but she was the only cat we had registered at that address on a chip."

Rachel and Nora, before she went missing

The family had given up hope of finding her after they moved homes.

Rachel added: "I told the kids and my daughter was beaming ear to ear and then burst into tears.

"We don't know where she's been or if anyone has looked after her for the last four years or what she's been through and she just seemed quite startled for the first few days and she just kept staring at us trying to figure out what was happening.

"It’s just incredible to have Nora back. She’s just so lovely! I’m so appreciative of the RSPCA. I had no idea my mobile wasn’t on the chip so they really went to so much effort to get her seen at a vets and getting in contact with me."
