Gritters only able to treat some of North Yorkshire's main roads
It's after heavy snowfall caused gridlock on some routes
North Yorkshire County Council says its gritters were only able to treat some of the area's main roads after heavy snowfall yesterday.
Places like Scarborough and Ryedale saw big issues on some routes with vehicles unable to cope with icy conditions.
The authority says gritters will be out all day today and are now getting onto 'priority 2' roads.
Its Highways Area Manager for Scarborough and Ryedale, Richard Marr, says the amount of snow meant they couldn't make progress: "The conditions we had yesterday were fairly extreme, normally we'll get some snow overnight and into the morning and it seems to die out and we've got the sun and the rest of the day to deal with it. The issue we had yesterday was the snow just kept coming."
North Yorkshire County Council has confirmed to us that gritters will be out all day today and are now onto 'Priority Two' routes. Richard Marr says the team are doing their best: "We might get a bit more snow which might hamper our efforts but we run all day today into the late hours tonight and we'll be back on it at 4o'clock tomorrow morning."
