Flooding near Settle blocks railway line from Skipton towards Carlisle and Lancaster

Trains are currently cancelled and passengers are advised not to travel, there's also a series of flood warnings in place across Harrogate and the Dales

Heavy rain overnight has blocked a railway line and led to a series of flood warnings across Harrogate and the Dales.

Train services between Skipton and Carlisle and Skipton and Lancaster are currently cancelled due to flooding in a number of locations.

The line is blocked at Melling Tunnel, between Settle & Blea Moor and between Hellifield and Carnforth. As a result, both the Skipton and Carlisle and Skipton and Lancaster lines are closed in both directions.

Due to road conditions in the area, rail replacement buses cannot run, and train operator Northern are advising customers not to travel:

• Skipton – Carlisle -Skipton

• Skipton – Lancaster- Skipton

Northern customers are advised to check www.nationalrail.co.uk for the latest travel information.

Meanwhile, last night's rain has also led to a series of flood warnings being put in place.

  • River Nidd at Knaresborough Caravan Parks and Goldsborough
  • River Wharfe at Denton Road, Ilkley
  • River Wharfe at Addingham

  • River Aire at Gargrave
  • Hellifield Beck at Hellifield
  • River Ribble at Settle
  • River Wharfe at Burnsall
