First Harrogate event since covid restrictions eased launches today
RHS Harlow Carr's annual summer garden show will run for the next four days
One of Harrogate's biggest events has launched this morning (24 June 2021) making it one of the first in the town since coronavirus restrictions eased.
RHS Harlow Carr Summer Garden Show is running the event over the next four days at reduced capacity but visitors can still enjoy the programme of demonstrations, talks, live music and the 58-acre garden.
Last year's event was cancelled because of the pandemic but organisers were keen to have a smaller version of the show this year.
Liz Thwaite, Head of Site, said: "There is a lot of stress on site at the moment because we want to make sure the event is brilliant.
"I think everyone is looking forward to it. It feels like a bit of normality in all of the chaos.
"The events team have planned and cancelled events so many times so it's just brilliant that we can put something on.
"It's not the normal model we would have done under normal circumstances but we're just delighted we can do something."
Flower enthusiasts have jumped at the opportunity to attend as the event is now fully booked with cancelled tickets being relisted as soon as they are processed.
They will be able to pick up gardening tips and inspiring ideas in the marquee but for those who don't want to watch the demonstrations inside can enjoy them from the big screens located beside the Queen Mother’s Lake.
Liz, added: "It's almost like a mini version of the flower show. There are restricted numbers so we are putting the talks and demos on screens outside so people can enjoy those and not have to be inside if they don't want.
"The garden is looking beautiful and it's honestly the best I've ever seen it look.
"It's just amazing to have an event in such a beautiful garden and for people to come and enjoy what we have to offer."
Renowned Yorkshire-based gardener, writer, broadcaster and RHS judge Martin Fish will be sharing his advice and insight from more than 30 years’ gardening experience.
Floral designer Jonathan Moseley will host workshops offering the inspiration and knowledge needed to create stunning summer cut flower displays.
The four-day RHS Harlow Carr Summer Garden Show replaces the annual Flower Show. The new event has been carefully planned to ensure visitors can enjoy the ‘Garden Show’ experience in a safe and relaxing environment.
Later in the year, an additional two-day Autumn Garden Show on 4–5 September 2021 will offer a second opportunity to browse and buy quality seasonal plants from expert growers.
