A person has died after testing positive for Covid-19 at Harrogate District Hospital for the first time in more than two months.

The patient died at the hospital on Sunday, according to NHS England figures.

It brings the hospital’s coronavirus death toll up to 83.

The last time a death was reported by the hospital trust was 72 days ago on 19 July.

NHS England has today reported a further 71 coronavirus deaths across the UK. It is the highest daily total for months, and brings the national total to 42,072.

It comes as the Harrogate district has now recorded more than 1,000 coronavirus cases since the pandemic began.

The total number of confirmed cases stands at 1,026.

Nationally, there have been 7,143 new cases recorded in the UK in a 24-hour period, according to new figures.

It is the highest number of new daily cases since mass testing began – although experts believe daily cases were far higher in the Spring.
