Fears of more domestic abuse in North Yorkshire during Euros
Concerns are being raised by IDAS - a North Yorkshire charity, which supports victims of domestic abuse.
There are worries the number of domestic abuse incidents across North Yorkshire will rise during the Euros.
It's as national figures show during a major football tournament, calls to the police or domestic abuse services rise by 34 per cent.
North Yorkshire's Independent Domestic Abuse Service is raising awareness of the issue.
IDAS' Carmel Offord said:
"It isn't football causing domestic abuse, but there might be some factors associated with enjoying football that could exacerbate existing domestic abuse, such as frustrations and alcohol.
"It's really important to say that football doesn't cause domestic abuse. We do see people who choose to be abusive usiong all sorts of excuses for their behavious and those excuses are also part of the abuse.
"If somebody is blaming you for their behaviour, or football, or anything else then actually the issue is with them and the responsibility for that behaviour lies with them."
