The family of the woman injured following a collision between a car and a train on a North Yorkshire level crossing have thanked bystanders for helping at the scene.

The car driver was taken to hospital following a crash on Yatt's Road, Newbridge, near Pickering on Sunday.

North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) said her family were "truly grateful" to those who assisted.

In a statement released through the heritage railway, the unidentified woman's family said: "We have no idea who they were or where they were from so can't thank them directly, but we are truly grateful for your help.

"We'd also like to thank the people for their compassion and kind comments on social media."

NYMR also confirmed no passengers or crew were hurt.
