Family of climber who died in Yorkshire Dales thank people who helped
Aly Andersonâs family say he died in a place he loved, doing a sport he loved.
The family of a man who died while climbing at a Yorkshire Dales beauty spot have thanked people who stopped to try and help him.
Aly Anderson, who was 63, passed away after falling from Castlebergh Rock in Settle on Sunday 23 May.
His family say it brings them âsuch comfortâ to know that so many good people tried to help him in his hour of need.
They included two walkers, who stopped to carry out CPR, and two who contacted emergency services. The family have made contact with them on social media.
A group of six young people on mountain bikes also helped carry equipment for emergency workers.

Alyâs family have also thanked the Cave Rescue Organisation, and two Air Ambulance crews, and other emergency workers.
They say it gives them comfort that âso many good people tried to help him in his hour of need.â
The family are hoping to meet some of the people who helped when they visit Settle to pay their respects.

Alyâs family say he was âalways a sporty personâ, playing as a goalkeeper for Tranmere Rovers when he was younger.
He was also placed into the hall of fame for Hartwick College in America, after playing for their team in the 1970s, and was an avid cricket player all his life.
His family said: âThere arenât many mountains in the UK that Our Aly hasnât climbed!â
âSettle was such a special place for Our Aly to go. He loved it there and visited often, climbing that cliff face many times.
âWe take comfort from knowing that Our Aly was in a place he loved, doing a sport he loved too!
âAly was the 7th of 10 children, the oldest of the 3 brothers.
âHe is loved and will be missed by all our family.â
