Extra police patrols in North Yorkshire this weekend to enforce Covid rules
Officers say they want to protect the 'green shoots of recovery' we're starting to see
North Yorkshire Police say they'll be carrying out extra patrols across the county this weekend to ensure people are complying with the Covid lockdown regulations.
It's the first weekend since the Prime Minister announced his 'roadmap' out of lockdown, but all the existing rules are currently still in place.
Officers say they want to protect 'the green shoots of recovery' we're starting to see, and ensure our chances of getting out of lockdown are protected.
Writing on social media, they added, "We’ve got to keep going and make sure all the hard work and sacrifice has been for a worthwhile purpose".
They're keen to remind people that despite a welcome reduction in infection rates, Covid hasn't gone away and they'll provide a 'highly visible and reassuring presence'.
