Whitby's Beth Mead is among four of England's Euro 2022-winning side included on the New Year Honours list.

Skipper Leah Williamson, Ellen White and Lucy Bronze are the other recognised after the triumph in July that brought the Lionesses the first piece of major silverware in their history.

Beth - who's from Hinderwell originally - becomes an MBE - alongside White and Bronze. However, Williamson has been made an OBE - the first for a senior England team since the men's 1966 World Cup success.

Whitby resident Robert Clarkson who's the Chief Systems Engineer at RAF Fylingdales on the North York Moors receives an MBE.

As does Jill Quinn is the founder of North Yorkshire Charity Dementia Forward who says she couldn't believe the email was real: "I was sat at home and my husband said stay calm because it could be hoax because it was completely out of the blue. So I rang this lovely lady who confirmed it was real. I think the worst bit has been keeping it a secret so it's great to be able to tell everyone now."

Former boss of North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce Sandy Needham is recognised with an OBE.

That same gong goes to Richard Sheriff the CEO at Harrogate based academy group Red Kite Learning Trust.
