There are worries the rising infection rate in the Yorkshire Dales could lead to holiday bookings being cancelled.

It's as people may be less likely to want to come to Craven district if the rate is so high.

Infection rates across the country are continuing to increase as the Delta variant – first identified in India – spreads.

The rate in Craven district is now sitting at 158 per 100,000 and is the 2nd highest in North Yorkshire.

John Rudden co-owns Grassington House and has warned it's vital they have a sellout summer to survive any potential further lockdowns.

He said: “When people say they’re showing symptoms and want to cancel we totally understand that, and we’d prefer it. But we are concerned going forward and we need people to stick to the plan going forward especially as we open fully in July.

“I think it’s very important that we support the customers as much as they’ve been supporting us by making sure that if they can’t come on this visit due to having symptoms or having to isolate we accommodate them for a different time.

“The main thing is that we keep busy and keep control of what we’re doing and get some revenue. Who knows what’s going to happen in the future. Are we going to have something later in the year? Another winter lockdown? We don’t know that yet.”

In Craven district nearly 80,000 vaccinations have been given, with over 43,000 first doses and over 35,000 second doses.
