Police "won't have the Yorkshire Dales ruined" by excessive exhaust noise
Officers are cracking down on nuisance drivers
North Yorkshire Police have vowed to crack down on motorcyclists making excessive noise in the Yorkshire Dales.
They say there was an increase in nuisance reports over the summer and that they "don't want the Yorkshire Dales ruined" by exhaust noise.
Mark Pannone, assistant Chief Constable, said: "We are acutely aware that we have an exhaust noise nuisance and there is a fad at the moment with people having exceptionally loud exhausts which are frustrating, antisocial and annoying which is completely unnecessary.
"We do not want the Yorkshire Dales to be ruined by noise nuisance. When people are deliberately modifying their vehicles with those loud, cherry bomb kind of exhausts it is of no benefit to anyone and we want to stop that."
A trial could be rolled out across the Dales to crack down on repeat offenders.
Noise cameras, like speed cameras, could be introduced which are activated when a vehicle produces excessive noise.
The scheme has already been rolled out in parts of Cambridge.
