Coronavirus: Another death at Harrogate Hospital

It brings the total number of covid deaths since the start of the pandemic to 90

One new coronavirus death has been registered at Harrogate Hospital, according to the latest NHS England figures.

The patient died on Thursday, November 5 and brings the hospital’s total number of Covid-related deaths to 90.

It is the sixth death to be announced at the hospital in just over two weeks and comes amid a rise in Covid admissions.

Cases are also continuing to climb in Harrogate with the borough’s weekly infection rate of 279 cases per 100,000 people remaining above the national average of 240.

Harrogate had maintained the highest infection rate in North Yorkshire for several weeks but has now been overtaken by Scarborough which has seen its weekly infection rate jump from 92 cases per 100,000 people to 337 in just under a month.

The death reported at Harrogate Hospital today was one of 36 across Yorkshire’s hospitals.

A further 131 Covid patients have died elsewhere in England, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals to 34,663.

Meanwhile, Airedale Hospital has reported a further five deaths related to coronavirus.

Those deaths have happened over the past 10 days, taking the total now to 129.
