The Queen's Baton to relay through Yorkshire this summer

The Queen's Commonwealth Baton Relay comes to Yorkshire today.
The Commonwealth Games is an international multi-sport event where athletes from commonwealth nations compete
The Commonwealth Games will take place from 28 July - 8 August and it will be hosted in Birmingham.
The Baton Relay is a relay around the world held prior to the beginning of the Commonwealth Games.
Individuals in Yorkshire have been selected to carry the Queens Baton through Yorkshire as part of the relay.
Harleen Kaur from Yorkshire has been selected as a Baton Bearer for Bradford.
Harleen has been giving back to her community and is proud to show young people that there are role models in the area.
She says: "It feels really special to be recognised and It shows other young people in the area that there's a role model out there that they can look up to".
Akeela Mohammed, Deputy Lieutenant from Yorkshire has also been selected as a Baton Bearer.
Akeela says: "It's a real honour to be nominated and chosen to do this. It feels like it's part of something big. So many people have held this baton."
"I think a lot of people that have been picked are people who have given back to their communities"
"Being a Muslim Pakistani woman, it's always good to try and be a role model for other women. Being chosen to do this, I hope will inspire other young girls and women to do and be anything."
On Tuesday 12th July the relay will travel through:
- Sheffield
- Rotherham
- Huddersfield
- Bradford
- Leeds
On Wednesday 13th July the relay will travel through:
- Hull
- Beverley
- Markey Weighton
- York
- Malton
- Scarborough
- Robin Hood's Bay
- Whitby
On July 13, East Riding of Yorkshire will officially welcome the baton.
The ‘Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games’ will cover 180 cities, towns and villages over 29 days.
The Baton will visit the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, be dived underwater in a shark tank at the Deep in Hull and come to pass Whitby through a RNLI lifeboat.
