A man has died, after falling from the top of Castlebergh Rock in Settle.

The climber was seen falling by two visitors, who attempted to resuscitate him, carrying out CPR for 15 minutes.

Emergency services, including Air Ambulance crews, declared him to have sadly died.

A statement from the Yorkshire Dales Cave Rescue Organisation reads: "A climber (m) fell from the top of Castlebergh. Two visitors, who had seen him fall, ran down and attempted CPR for about 15 minutes.

"When the first team member arrived on scene, with a defibrillator, it told them not to shock the patient. The doctor and paramedics from two air ambulances, a road ambulance and YAS rapid response vehicle confirmed life extinct.

"Once the necessary formalities were over, team members stretchered the climber down to a team Land Rover."
