Petition calls for fixed speed cameras to be set up in North Yorkshire
Campaigners say it's to catch drivers who do "terrifying" speeds in 30mph zones
A petition’s been set up calling for fixed speed cameras be set up on North Yorkshire’s roads.
Campaigners say they can’t understand why we don’t have them.
Andy Brown is a County Councillor representing Cowling, near Skipton and explains exactly what they are asking for: "Give villages where we know there is a day in day out problem the protection of either fixed cameras at either the exit and the entrance of the village, or preferably an average speed camera that covers the length of those villages."
More than 400 people have signed the petition so far asking for North Yorkshire County Council and the Police and Crime Commissioner to consider introducing them.
Anita Caskey is a driving instructor in the Craven District who is also part of the campaign. She says speeding drivers put huge pressure on her students: "Now I do mindfulness in the car with students because they get so anxious and it's more of a danger to us, and it's not their fault, it's someone pressuring them all the time."
