Body found in search for missing walker David McCartney

David headed out to “recce” an eight mile walk last week and hadn't returned home

A body has been found in the search for missing walker David McCartney.

A farmer called police to say he had discovered a body in the Coverhead area late this morning (Monday 25 October.) Officers attended a short time later, along with mountain rescue and the body was recovered.

A police statement, said: "Although formal identification has not been confirmed at this stage, officers believe the body to be that of David McCartney. Mr McCartneys family have been informed of this news and are currently being supported.A post mortem will be carried to establish the cause of death. Officers believe there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. "

The 74-year-old from Keighley was last seen prior to heading out on a walking expedition in Craven on Monday afternoon.

In the following days there was an extensive search, involving police, the national police air support service, mountain rescue and the RAF.

On Friday (22nd October) police had found his car in Kettlewell.
