UPDATE (8am) - The A1(M) has partially re-opened northbound but it's still closed southbound.

Both stretches are experiencing high levels of congestion.

Earlier we reported:

There could be some major delays on the roads in North Yorkshire this morning (Thursday, 6 January) after emergency services close the A1(M).

It's affecting traffic between junctions J44, at A64 (York / Tadcaster) to J45, A659 Wattlesyke (Boston Spa).

The road was closed - in both directions - at around 4.45am after a lorry struck the central reservation, overturned and began leaking diesel onto the carriageway.

We're told diversions are in place.

More to follow.
