Humberside Police have been assaulted following a memorial vigil in Grimsby.

The force were called to the Grant Thorold Park area on Monday night (16 June), where officers saw a number of people driving dangerously, leading to a motorbike being seized.

Damage was then caused to police cars and some officers were assaulted and injured.

Earlier in the day, a memorial was held for 18-year-old JP Perry who died on June 9.

"antisocially"

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Pete Musgrave said: “We were made aware of a planned vigil that was taking place around the Grant Thorald Park area in Grimsby at around 5.30pm on Monday, 16 June.

“Neighbourhood Policing Officers were deployed to offer reassurance but also to respond to any emerging issues and deal with these swiftly.

“Local officers began seeing people driving dangerously around the park, leading to a motorbike being seized.

“Following the vigil, a group of people then reportedly began to behave antisocially, including causing damage to police vehicles, leading to some officers sustaining injuries. Thankfully these are not thought to be serious at this time.

“Over the last 24 hours, my team have been conducting multiple lines of enquiries and I can confirm we have identified a number of people suspected to be involved in offences including antisocial behaviour and assault of police officers.

“We would urge anyone with any information, CCTV or video footage from around the area to please contact us".
